Tips For Making The Divorce Process Smooth and Cost Efficient

Save your file. You will receive a large amount of important paperwork throughout your divorce proceeding including letters, forms, court orders, etc. Carefully reading and saving these documents will give you a good understanding of your case and provide backup of important facts and dates.

Save financial statements. During the proceedings you will be asked to complete "discovery," which requires both parties to produce certain financial documents such as bank records, credit card bills, real estate tax records, etc. as factual support to help determine your marital assets and liabilities. Diligently maintaining these records in a cohesive manner will make the discovery process less time consuming and costly.

Organize discovery. The discovery process often requires production of numerous documents. By providing these documents to our office in a timely and organized fashion, you will reduce the amount of time our office must spend in preparing the documents, thereby reducing your legal fees.

Communicate effectively. It is important to maintain an open line of communication with our office. Members of our Group are available Monday through Friday to assist you with any questions you may have regarding your case. Our Group’s team approach is unique and cost efficient in that all members of our Team are familiar with your case, not just our attorney team members. That way you do not necessarily have to speak directly with an attorney team member to get answers to your questions. Further, when it is imperative for you to speak to an attorney team member, scheduled phone conferences are utilized to ensure that the time spent speaking to one of our attorneys is efficient and productive.

Understand billing procedures. You will be billed for the time spent on your case. While this clearly includes court appearances, it also includes time spent on the phone with you and reading/writing letters from/to you. Be familiar with and recognize our billing procedures, and plan to communicate effectively when you contact us. For example, make note of what you wish to discuss prior to making the phone call to our office, and stick to your main concerns during the call in order to keep your costs to a minimum.
